Berty's Banana Bread with strusle top.
Berty's Banana Bread with strusle top.. For a sweeter, more banana-y bread, make sure to use very ripe and brown-flecked bananas. Refrigerating the streusel while you make the batter for the banana bread makes it so the streusel doesn't just melt into the top of the bread while it bakes and ensures a crunchy, crumbly coating. I love banana bread in so many different ways: plain with a smear of soft butter, with lots of crunchy walnuts, a boozy hit of bourbon, or even with bittersweet chocolate chips strewn throughout. Even an amateur cook can nail it! I remember reading somewhere that the United States is not the place for desserts.
